Finnish authorities have frozen the assets of Simon Ekpa, a self-proclaimed Biafran agitator, who is currently detained on terrorism-related charges.

The move also targets companies linked to Ekpa and four alleged accomplices who remain in custody.

According to Finnish media outlet Yle, Truthlivenews learnt that Ekpa is being held in Kylmäkoski Prison, considered one of the world’s toughest detention facilities. His incarceration follows a court ruling by the Päijät-Häme District Court, which remanded him on November 21 for allegedly spreading terrorist propaganda via social media.

Ekpa, who has declared himself the Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government-in-Exile, is accused of instigating violence and terror in Nigeria’s southeast region.

Finnish investigators allege that his actions, which date back to 2021, included promoting violent separatist activities and inciting disruptions like the controversial “Sit-At-Home” order that has significantly impacted economic life in the region.

Authorities in Finland have deemed Ekpa’s alleged offenses non-bailable. His trial is scheduled to begin in May 2025.

The case has drawn significant international attention, with increasing calls for accountability amid concerns about the implications of his activities on Nigeria’s stability.
