A devastating fire engulfed the private residence of Mariya Mahmoud, the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), on Sunday afternoon.
The fire outbreak occurred at No. 9, Justice Roseline Ukeji Close, Asokoro area of Abuja, leaving destruction in its wake.
Reports indicate that firefighters were slow to respond to distress calls when the fire broke out, exacerbating the situation.
Austine Elemue, the media aide to the minister, confirmed the incident to journalists, expressing uncertainty about the cause of the fire.
He stressed that despite the efforts of first responders, nothing could be salvaged from the house. While suspicions point to an electrical spark as the possible cause, investigations are ongoing to determine the exact reason behind the tragic incident.
“Yes, fire gutted the private residence of the minister of state. Investigation is still on to know the cause of the fire,” Elemue said.
“But electric spark is suspected though, but we are going to wait for the outcome of the investigation. There is no casualty but we could not salvage anything from the house.”
