The Edo State Police Command has intercepted four hunters from Kano State with arms and ammunition upon their arrival in the state.
The hunters, identified as Yusuf Abdulkarim, Mujaheed Garba, Shittu Idris, and Jamilu Habibu, were found with three Dane guns, six empty cartridges, three half-filled cartridges, four cutlasses, and two daggers.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are hunters from Doguwa in Kano State, heading to Uvbe community in Orhionwon Local Government Area of Edo State, not herdsmen as misinformation on social media suggested.
The Edo State Police Command clarified this to dispel misinformation circulating on social media that four herdsmen armed with guns were arrested at a hotel in the state and handed over to the police.
An investigation into the incident is currently ongoing.
The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has urged residents to refrain from circulating wrong information that could cause unnecessary tension.
