In order to reduce the painful effects of the termination of the petrol subsidy, Adamawa Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri has approved a palliative of N10,000 per month for civil servants and pensioners for a period of six months.
During a Wednesday press conference in Yola, the governor’s chief of staff, Dr. Edgar Amos, disclosed this.
According to Amos, the head of the special committee for easing the effects of the termination of petrol subsidies on the people of the state, the governor also approved the full implementation of the federal minimum wage for workers in local government. In August, this will become effective.
According to him, the governor also authorised the purchase of 20 trucks of rice and 70 trucks of maize, which were to be distributed to the public at a discount price.
He added that the government would buy 50 trucks of fertiliser at a discounted price for state employees.
Purchasing shuttle buses to transport employees to and from the state secretariat and for inter-local government transportation, he claimed, had been decided upon.
According to Amos, the proposals made by the special committee established to come up with palliatives to lessen the impact of the subsidy removal policy included the steps.
