The Governor of Akwa Ibom State Pastor Umo Eno, has said that every village should rise up to protect assets that government will build in their communities.
While addressing sympathizers during a funeral service in honour of the Special Representative to former Gov. Udom Emmanuel in Lagos State, late Elder Samuel Bassey, at Govt Primary School, Afaha Atai in Eket LGA, Gov. Eno said “that’s the only way to encourage us to do more.”
He said henceforth, the government will hold the community leaders accountable for the vandalisation of public infrastructure in their domains.
Eno said he will adopt the trajectory fencing of schools and engage security personnel from the host communities to protect public infrastructure on the recommendations of Village heads and Youth leaders.
“We believe that fencing these schools will help protect the assets of the school,” the governor said, “So not only do we want to fence the school, there will be a security house, and the Honourable Commissioner for Internal Security will work with the village to employ two security men.”
“So please, as we will fence the school, build a security house for you, engage security men, build solar panels to give you light in that place,” he continued. “Also, know that to whom much is given, much is expected.”
The media unit of the government house Uyo, reported that the governor conveyed the condolences of the government and people of the State to the bereaved family and United Evangelical Church over the death of the late Elder Samuel Bassey.
The unit also said that the immediate past Governor, Udom Emmanuel, described the late Samuel Bassey as a good man, a friend and a brother, adding that in more than one way the deceased had proved himself a dependable ally.
Emmanuel said the death has only ended the life of “Ba”, as he fondly called him but not his relationship with the family and bade his soul goodbye while expressing optimism that he will meet with him on the resurrection morning.
