The Governor of Abia State Dr Alex Otti, says by leveraging on the strength of the Geometric Power Limited the state can make significant strides in such areas as the manufacturing sector and job creation.

Otti made this known in a meeting with the former Minister of Power and Chairman of Geometric Power Limited Prof. Bartholomew Nnaji, CON, in Aba.

He said on Tuesday via his official twitter handle that they had some insightful conversation about the gains of the power plant in Alaoji Aba, Geometric Power Aba Limited, and its current status.

The tweet reads, “Recently, I had the pleasure of hosting Prof. Bartholomew Nnaji, CON, a former Minister of Power and Chairman of Geometric Power Limited and his team.”

“I am grateful for Prof. Nnaji’s support and recognition of our commitment to building a prosperous Abia State through effective collaboration between the government and the private sector,” he said.

“By leveraging on the strength of the power plant, we can make significant strides in such areas as the manufacturing sector, infrastructure development, SMEs, job creation, and social welfare.”

According to him, they had some insightful conversation about the gains of the power plant in Alaoji Aba, Geometric Power Aba Limited, and its current status.

On his part, the former Minister of Power and Chairman of Geometric Power Limited Prof. Bartholomew Nnaji, CON, who led the team said that right now, they are buying power from the National Grid, that is why power is not reliable yet.

“The turbines to power the electricity plant which were taken abroad for maintenance have been brought back to the plant and reinstalled,” Nnaji said. “We will like to ask our citizens of Aba to bear with us that we are getting there. We are pretty much there.”

While explaining why there has been no steady light in the state the chairman of the GPL said “We are now working with the NNPC to resolve the issue of gas supply to the plant.”

“So, we are expecting that once we have gas, which will be in the next month or two, we will be able to power Aba, that is, from our own power plant.”

He also said consumers are going to get the power at a regulated price set by the regulator, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

Also on the team were the Managing Director/CEO of Niger Delta Power Holding Corporation, NDPHC, Chiedu Ugbo, and other senior management staff of NDPHC.
