Occasion by the removals of fuel subsidy by the Federal Governmment of Nigeria, the Cross River State Governor Sen Bassey Edet Otu has donated N500 million for the purchase of more commodities as part of the state palliative program.
The governor, in a release signed by the Secretary to the State Governmment Prof Anthony Owan-Enoh who is also palliatives committee’s chairman directed the commencement of N10, 000 payment allowance to all civil servants for the next six months, beginning from this September 2023.
Also in an advanced stage according to the release, is a plan by the governor to roll-out mass transit buses for subsidized rates to ease transportation challenges face by the citizens.
It says in the spirit of transparency and accountability, the flag off of the 8,600 bags of rice will also commence next week with students receiving1,000 bags, religious groups 800 bags, traditional rulers 400 bags, trade unions 300 bags, Labour Unions 800 bags, civil servants 800 bags and persons with disabilities 200 bags.
Others Include, motherless homes 200 bags, IDPs 800 bags, Refugees 800 bags, pensioners 800 bags, support groups/IPAC 1,100 bags, Security 500 bags and National Youth Council 100 bags.
The release in part reads, the “palliatives committee secures additional N500 million for items, distribution begins next week.”
