The Governor of Cross River State, Sen Bassey Edet Otu, has congratulated the Boki people on their new yam festival celebration with what he described as a ‘bountiful harvest.’
The Governor who spoke through his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, at the occasion said that the Boki people are hardworking Cross Riverians.
Held at Ogep Osokom community, Central Senatorial District South South Nigeria, this year’s annual new yam celebration hosted by Rt. Hon. Hilary Bisong, Otu said, “i will support the community as they worked towards completing the church edifice.”
The Governor also promised his administration’s support for Boki indigenes saying that two Boki sons had been appointed commissioners with key positions.
Responding Rt. Hon. Hilary Bisong, while acknowledging the presence of the Deputy Governor used the opportunity to call on the state government to consider gazzeting the colorful event of Boki people.
Hon Bisong, at the occasion attended by MP, Rt. Hon. Joseph Bassey, MP, Hon. Victor Abang, the Chief of Staff to the Cross River State Governor, Hon. Emmanuel Ironbar, went memory lane saying Boki was a unique LGA that was bounded by 5 other LGAs.
He said the LG boasted of great farmers in Boki, and that one did not only eat the yam but also saw and felt it.
The event which was also grace by the Commissioners for Finance, Mr. Mike Odere, Commissioner for Industry, Dr. Marcel Angioha, Information, Erasmus Ekpang, Tourism, Arts & Culture, Hon. Abubakar Ewa, amongst others, was marked by dances, masquerade competition and other side attractions.
