Governor Charles Soludo has renamed the Anambra International Passenger and Cargo Airport.
During his Independence Day address in Awka, the governor revealed that the airport would now bear the name “Chinua Achebe International Passenger and Cargo Airport.”
This decision is a strong tribute to the celebrated Nigerian author, Chinua Achebe, whose literary contributions have left an enduring impact on the global stage.
Achebe’s literary works, most notably the iconic novel “Things Fall Apart,” not only earned him international acclaim but also enriched the cultural heritage of Anambra State and Nigeria as a whole.
The Anambra International Cargo Airport, located in Ivite-Umueri in Umuleri, Anambra State, is a significant international airport in Nigeria.
It was inaugurated on October 30, 2021, and has since played a pivotal role as a hub for Air Peace, a prominent Nigerian airline.
This renaming gesture reflects the state’s recognition of Chinua Achebe’s profound influence on literature and culture, and it underscores the airport’s growing importance in the region’s transportation network.
The Chinua Achebe International Passenger and Cargo Airport now stands not only as a symbol of connectivity but also as a tribute to the literary giant who has forever etched his name in the annals of world literature.
