Governor Eno Reaffirms Commitment To Security, Requests Army Base In Oron

UYO – Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies in maintaining peace and stability across the state.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Eric Emekah, at Government House, Uyo, Governor Eno congratulated the GOC on his new assignment and assured him of the state government’s continued collaboration with the military.

“For us as a state, we will continue to support the Nigerian Army and other security agencies because they are protecting our people,” the Governor stated. “We will do all we can to ensure they perform their duties effectively.”

Governor Eno also reiterated his appeal for the establishment of an Army base along the Oron coastal area to enhance maritime security.

He recalled a previous commitment by the late Chief of Army Staff regarding the creation of a battalion in the Oron-Urueffong Oruko axis to combat criminal activities along the waterways.

“I believe you can help us achieve that,” he told General Emekah.

In response, Major General Emekah commended Governor Eno for his unwavering support of the military and other security agencies in the state.

He acknowledged the government’s contributions to security and the welfare of military personnel, emphasizing its positive impact on operations.

“I’ve been to Akwa Ibom several times on oversight functions based on my previous appointment as Deputy Chief of Operations, so I can attest to what you have been doing for the Army,” General Emekah said. “On behalf of the Chief of Army Staff and the officers and men of 6 Division, I want to say thank you, particularly for 2 Brigade, who are the primary beneficiaries of your hospitality.”

Truth Live News reports that the meeting was attended by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, and members of the newly constituted State Executive Council.
