A group on the platform of Connected Advocacy has decried the alarming rate at which the youths in Edo State have used their ingenuity in the internet to defraud their suspected victims, thereby giving the state a bad name.

Coordinator of the group, Comrade Israel Orekha raised the alarm at a two-day workshop on the use of Edo Youths Skill Development Programme In I.T Support, An Alternative To Internet Fraud held in Benin City.

Orekha told Truth Live News that the youths have now seen the act of defrauding their victims of their hard earned money as a systemic ways of life and that if you are not into it, you are not smart.

“Today we are doing the Edo Youths Skill Development Programme In I. T Support, An Alternative To Internet Fraud.

“It has been on the rise, young Edo youths into internet scam, that has caused a lot of damage to people’s mental health, future and prosperity.

“The menace has gone wide and it has become a culture of a way to survive that if you do not do ‘yahoo’, you are actually lossing out”, Orekha said.

Orekha said the situation has reached a feverish stage in the state adding that they have decided to take the bull by its horn to change the narratives and restore the state to its pride of place in the comity of states.

“So, we are to debunk that statement that before “yahoo”, we were surviving and also in the artificial intelligence world, the digital space, you can also do things in the internet without defrauding anybody .

“So, there are programme young people can begin to look into now that can earn them much more than even “yahoo” business because it is now very appalling that even a thirteen years old will tell you that he is going to learn “HK”. How has that support their future and it is also bringing bad name to the state.

“So, there are good things they can also do with that same computer.

“So, that is why we are here today to teach young Edo youths an alternative to internet fraud like product design, IT support, how they can use it to support their businesses, designing website, designing content all these can go a long way in pushing products and services to people”, Orekha told True Live News

Speaking also, one of the facilitators, Adisa Osawaru, while speaking on why he decided to join Connected Advocacy in training the youths on I. T Support, said he wanted to share his knowledge with the youths of the state so that they can live a better life.

One of the participants who spoke with True Live News, God’smark Orisakue described the workshop as an eye opener adding that he has heard about data analysis before now but today’s training has further broadened his knowledge.
