A group on the on the platform of Benin Development Union (BeDU), has pressured Chris Ogiemwonyi, Osarodion Ogie, Erhabor Emokpae, and Dr. Solomon Iyobosa Edebiri to contest the 2024 Edo state governorship election.
This was contained in a statement signed by its Secretary General, Orumwense J. Aiyudubie and made available to newsmen in Benin.
Aiyudubie said as the governorship election is fast approaching, they cannot fold their hands and allow those who have no knowledge of governance decide the fate of the people of the state.
“In the light of a growing agitation by Edo people for a home grown candidate for Edo governorship election, the trustees and members of Benin Development Union has resolved to publicly endorse these thorough bred public administrators and human relations pathfinders”, Aiyudubie said.
The Secretary General of the group said any political parties that fields one of the aforementioned persons will have the tremendous support of the Benin people at home and abroad.
He said the group is not a partisan political organization, however, it cannot sit idly while some individuals who have no knowledge of governance are warming up for the exalted seat of governor, when formidable politicians and prolific entrepreneurs like the persons of Osarodion Ogie, Chris Osa Ogiemwonyi, Mr. Erhabor Emokpae and Solomon Iyobosa Edebiri are seated
He said they are convinced beyond reasonable doubt that, the democratic pedigree of those mentioned is the irreducible political character required at this auspicious moment to galvanize Edo natural and human resources, a governor that with the legion of Memorandum of Understanding so far initiated by governor Obaseki, turn them into real time dividends of democracy.
He said any of these aspirants are capable of developing Gele Gele seaport project into a viable deep seaport for cargo ships landing, and the spill over effects of industrializing Edo State.
He said they are ready to pioneer a mass movement based political campaign for any of them that will emerge as candidate in any of the political parties.
