Delta State Police Command says that five suspected armed robbers have been killed after sustaining gun shot wounds from encountering men of the law.
This was disclosed by Commissioner of Police, CP Ari Mohammed Ali (FCIA, PSC+), while assurinh Delta State residents of their safety.
The number of robbers is a combination of simultaneous operations in Warri and Asaba by the police.
Truthlive.net learnt this in a press release by Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, made available to some group of Journalists in Asaba, Delta State capital, on Sunday, it was learnt, that the operatives on 1, July, neutralized, six suspected armed robbers, recovered four cut to size locally made guns and cartridges in Warri and Asaba metropolis.
Delta Police Command affirmed that, the operatives attached to ‘B’ Division Warri surveillance team, while on Aberdeen patrol along lower Erejuwa Street in Warri, received a distress call, that suspected armed robbery gang were terrorizing Igbudu market/old welfare.
Delta Police Command stated that, the operatives acted swiftly to that distress call and moved to the scene where the hoodlums were carrying out the robbery operation. According to the release, the hoodlums upon sighting the police took to their heels, and the team went after them.
The incidence took place somewhere around old welfare road as the hoodlums went into a gun duel with the Operatives. Unfortunately, the hoodlums could not withstand the superior firepower of the police during the gun duel as five of the hoodlums sustained serious gunshot injuries.
The command stated further, that operatives in Warri metropolis recovered from the suspected Armed Robbers: Two locally made cut-to-size single barrel guns, three rounds of expended cartridges, three rounds of live cartridges and one dagger were recovered from them as one of injured suspects gave up the ghost while they were being taken to the hospital as investigation in ongoing.
In Asaba metropolis, the Command stated that, its detailed operatives had recently swung into action, following series of complaints from members of the public, about the activities of some hoodlums who attack innocent residents in Asaba, especially around Ezenei axis, DLA, Summit Road, and other areas within the Asaba metropolis as residents were robbed of their phones, money, and other belongings.
Delta Police Commissioner had detailed some tactical teams on a round the clock patrol within Asaba and its environs, with a view to arresting those perpetrating the act. The Command quoted the dated of Police operation which took place on 30th of June, 2022 at about 0230hrs, that the Police operatives of the Command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS).
The operatives while on visibility patrol along Ezenei Street Asaba, sighted four suspicious looking young men in a parked mini-bus without registration number. When the team advanced towards them to find out their identity, they zoomed off towards Asaba-Benin Expressway.
It was gathered from the Delta Police Command reports that, the operatives gave them a tireless chase till they got to Issele-Asagba in Aniocha-Norh LGA. That the Police team while trying to double cross the vehicle were faced with stiff resistance from the hoodlums.
The hoodlums eventually ran into the Police van, abandoned their vehicle, fled into adjoining bush, while firing at the policemen. This confirmed the suspicion of the operatives as the Police followed them into the bush while exchanging gunshot. Consequently, one of the suspect sustained gunshot injury while others escaped with bullet wounds.
Police confirmed that detailed operatives recovered in that operation: One cut-to-size english double barrel, one locally made pistol, six expended cartridges, two live cartridges and a big iron cutter.
According to Delta Police Command, “the injured suspects were taken to Agbor General Hospital, where they died while receiving treatment. The Command said effort is on top gear to arrest the other fleeing members of the gang as Investigation is ongoing”.
