Pere Egbi, a reality TV star, has raised worry about the prejudice and discrimination that exist in Nigeria against the Igbo ethnic group.
The former Big Brother Naija contestant expressed his concern about the “hatred towards the Igbo tribe” on Twitter in the early hours of Tuesday, May 30.
The 37-year-old actor also related his encounter with a politician who, according to him, declared that an Igbo person would never be a Nigeria’s president. Pere claims that he feels for them because of how serious the hatred is.
He wrote;
“The hate against the Igbos in Nigeria is real. I AM NOT even Igbo or Yoruba or Hausa and I feel for them. Someone who is in politics once told me that “an Igbo person can never rule Nigeria”. If say Jesus no hold my right hand that day, I for slap am. Online I see lots of hate toward the Igbo tribe. This is coming from people within the political space. We have a serious problem in Nigeria and we need to be honest about it and face it head on. This is unfair.”
