He disclosed his deliberate withholding of his West African School Certificate (WASC) during the lead-up to the 2015 general elections, despite mounting pressure. This disclosure was made in Chapter 5 of “Working with Buhari – Reflections of Special Adviser, Media & Publicity (2015–2023),” a book penned by his former media adviser, Femi Adesina.
Truth Live News gathered that Buhari’s decision to keep his WASC certificate under wraps was further illuminated as he mentioned finding copies of the certificate while going through a drawer. He explained that he had always possessed it but refrained from releasing it to allow critics to indulge in their criticisms.
The book recounts a pivotal moment in November 2018 when the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Registrar, along with officials, presented the attestation certificate to Buhari. During this event, Buhari emphasized the importance of obtaining his WASC in 1961, highlighting its role in enabling him to attend prestigious military institutions such as the Defence Services Staff College in India (1973) and the United States Army War College.
Buhari’s military background was mentioned as he detailed the rigorous examination process he and his colleagues underwent, focusing on English, Mathematics, and General Knowledge. English, being the language of general instruction due to colonial heritage, played a crucial role.
