The candidate of the People’s Democratic Party PDP in the last Edo State governorship election, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, has described the passing of Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark as a profound loss to Nigeria, calling him “a colossus and a man of unshakeable convictions.” Clark, who died at the age of 97, was a towering figure in the fight for equity, resource control, and the emancipation of the Niger Delta.
In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Erhabor Emokpae, Ighodalo expressed deep sorrow, stating that Nigeria had lost “an irrepressible pillar of leadership and one of the most formidable voices for justice.” He highlighted Clark’s decades-long advocacy for the rights of marginalized communities, his fearless stance on national issues, and his unwavering commitment to fairness in resource allocation.
“Chief Edwin Clark was a man of immense wisdom, a fearless statesman who never backed down from speaking truth. His vision for Nigeria—a nation of fairness, inclusivity, and genuine federalism—must not be abandoned,” Ighodalo said.
He called on the younger generation to uphold Clark’s legacy, noting that his passing, following that of Chief Ayo Adebanjo, leaves a growing void in Nigeria’s conscience. “Though his voice has gone silent, his message must continue to guide us toward equity, progress, and true democracy,” he added.
