The Nigeria Police Force has instituted a Special Operation Squad, initiating an immediate deployment in Plateau State to tackle security challenges as part of their intervention measures.

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, disclosed this in light of recent attacks that resulted in approximately 195 fatalities and numerous injuries, during a condolence visit to Governor Caleb Mutfwang at the Government House in Jos.

He stated, “We are increasing the deployment of our tactical unit. Our tactical and intelligence units will be dispatched to support you. This visit with senior police officials signals our commitment to taking action.”

“We’re launching a special operation on the plateau, serving as the cornerstone of our special intervention squad. Previously, I mentioned our plan to establish a special intervention squad in ten pilot states in Nigeria, including Plateau State. This operation marks the technical commencement of our squad’s operations.”

Egbetokun urged the state’s citizens to collaborate in combatting criminals, emphasizing collective effort for a successful resolution.

He emphasized, “A solution is attainable with the cooperation of Plateau’s people. I implore them to assist security agencies with information and active involvement. This isn’t a war against any tribe; it’s against criminals, the enemies of our country.”

The IGP’s visit aims to assess the security situation and ensure heightened vigilance, especially in areas affected by recent attacks.
