NIGERIA,PLATEAU – In a swift response to renewed violence in Plateau State, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on Tuesday ordered the immediate deployment of tactical assets and personnel to communities affected by deadly attacks that began on March 28.

The deployments include police tactical teams, aerial surveillance units, and armored vehicles, with the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, Kwazhi Dali Yakubu, leading the operation on ground.

Egbetokun’s directive follows a wave of violent attacks in Bokkos Local Government Area and surrounding communities that have claimed dozens of lives and left many others injured.

According to a statement from the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on X handle the IGP emphasized the police’s commitment to restoring peace and holding perpetrators accountable.

“The IGP has directed DIG Yakubu to coordinate the intervention with reinforcements, including Special Intervention Squads, Police Mobile Force units, drones, helicopters, and Armored Personnel Carriers,” Adejobi said.

On arriving in Plateau on April 8, DIG Yakubu met with Governor Caleb Mutfwang in Jos.

He conveyed the police chief’s condolences and pledged a comprehensive security plan to end the cycle of violence.

“The meeting was both strategic and empathetic,” Yakubu said after the visit. “We are here to listen, act, and bring lasting peace to these communities.”

The police say the operation will focus on both suppressing ongoing attacks and preventing future outbreaks of violence.

The Force urged residents to support law enforcement by sharing information relevant to investigations.

“The Nigeria Police Force will work closely with the Plateau State Government, local leaders, and other security agencies to tackle the root causes of this crisis,” Adejobi added.

The attacks, which began late last month, have left communities in mourning and heightened fears of further unrest.

The IGP’s intervention comes amid growing calls for more decisive federal action to stop the killings.
