Chief Francis Inegbeniki, a prominent figure of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Edo Central Senatorial District, has vehemently denied allegations that he led or sponsored thugs during a protest along Airport Road in Benin City.
In a statement released on Thursday, Inegbeniki addressed the accusations circulating on social media, describing them as false and misleading. “It is not true that I led or sponsored thugs on protest along Airport road in Benin City. As I speak, I was never on Airport road at the time the said confrontation took place,” he stated.
Chief Inegbeniki expressed his dismay over the accusations, urging the government, security agencies, and the general public to dismiss the claims. “It is very wrong for anyone for any reason to accuse me of leading or sponsoring any protest,” he said. “I urge the government, security agencies, and the general public to disregard the falsehood.”
The Esan politician, known for his peaceful demeanor, emphasized his commitment to lawful conduct. “I am a peaceful and law-abiding Nigerian, and at my age, being an elder statesman, would never contemplate such an act,” Inegbeniki affirmed.
As the election approaches, Inegbeniki suggested that the allegations are part of a smear campaign orchestrated by his adversaries. “The election is around the corner, and I quite understand that my enemies would do anything desperately to blackmail me or tarnish my reputation,” he reiterated.
