Armed gunmen suspected to be bandits laid ambush on security men at Jidda-Bassa community in Ajaokuta local government area of Kogi State on Saturday afternoon, killing three police officers and five vigilantes.
It was gathered that from a reliable source that some people living in Jidda-Bassa community had reported to the DPO of Police that some unknown people have attacked their farms.
This incident came up after some people living in Jidda-Bassa community had reported to the DPO about an attacked on their farms by unknown people suspected to be gunmen.
According to Ebira Reporters, the DPO mobilised some of his men and the vigilantes to the scene, however before they could get to the farm, they were ambushed by some gunmen which claimed the lives of three Policemen and five vigilantes on the spot.
Kogi state government has vowed to get those behind the killing of the security men as they deposit their bodies at Federal Medical Center mortuary.
The Security Adviser to the Kogi state governor, Commodore (rtd) Jerry Omodara made this known on Saturday while confirming the incident.
He said, “some security men made up of policemen and the vigilantes were detailed to visit the scene were some people from the community were complaining about.
Unfortunately, they were ambushed by gunmen killing three Policemen and five vigilantes on the spot.”
He sympathized with the families of the deceased as he promise that the government will ensure to bring the perpetrators of this evil act to book and justice will be served.
