The wife and the Oba of Idofin Shedrack Durojaye Obibeni have been kidnapped by unknown gunmen in Kogi State’s Yagba East Local Government Area.
The traditional chief and his wife were reportedly kidnapped on Monday at 5 PM along the Makutu-Idofin road.
Abdulrasak Asiru, chairman of the Yagba East Local Government Council, who confirmed the heinous crime, called it “very shocking” and “sad.”
“The abduction of our esteemed Oba and his wife last evening has shocked me, the council chairman, and the people of Yagba East greatly.
This is due to the fact that this LGA has a very strong security architecture that keeps watch over us and keeps criminal elements at bay.
“This incident was carefully planned by the kidnappers, according to what I’ve learned; the Oba and his wife had only gone outside to look at something when it happened in less than 10 minutes,” I said.
The traditional king and his wife were in danger, and Asiru declared, “We smell a rat over this sad incident, and we are not resting until we get to the criminal elements who did this dastardly act.”
Asiru claimed that messages urging everyone in Okun land, including the traditional authorities and community leaders, to be watchful and launch a comprehensive search for the couple’s rescue had been issued.
The DPO of the impacted area, according to Kogi State Police Command image maker SP Williams Ovye-Aya, has not yet informed him of the situation.
