The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old travel agent, David Ibiso, for allegedly obtaining N11m from one Josephine Egharevba, on the pretence of procuring travel documents to the United States of America.
Police paraded Ibiso alongside 14 other suspects allegedly arrested for armed robbery, kidnapping, fraud, attempted murder among others.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, said the police arrested them while investigating a case of fraud reported against Ibiso.
In addition, he said the suspect allegedly presented himself to the woman as a medical doctor and a registered travel agent.
Thus, fraudulently obtained from Josephine the sum of N11m to procure travel documents for her to travel to the USA.
“Ibiso confessed to the crime, after his arrest in Abuja,” said Nwabuzor. Adding that he would be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.
“I made a financial commitment to the tune of N11m,” said the victim. After he made several financial demand for the processing of travelling documents.
Therefore, “I lodged a complaint to the police for his arrest when he refused to respond to my enquires.”
Truth Live News gathered, the suspect who hails from River State, confessed that he collected the money but denied it was not a case of fraud.
“It is a case of passport and visa. I am a third party agent,.”
He continued: “I collected the money and gave it to a third party who could process the document.”
“We are still trying to resolved the problem.” the suspect explained.
