After prolonged negotiations, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has reached an agreement with Dangote Refinery, enabling its members to directly obtain petrol, diesel, and kerosene from the facility.
The deal, announced by IPMAN’s National President, Abubakar Maigandi Shettima, marks a significant shift towards boosting Nigeria’s fuel supply and economic stability.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Monday, Shettima encouraged oil marketers to support Dangote Refinery, stating that collaboration would strengthen the Nigerian economy.
“The Dangote Refinery has agreed to allow IPMAN to directly lift Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), and Dual Purpose Kerosene (DPK) for onward supply to IPMAN depots and retail outlets,” Shettima said.
He emphasized that this partnership will ensure a consistent supply of affordable fuel across Nigeria, promoting job creation and reducing dependence on imports.
He added, “This is the right course of action, given the benefits of backward integration and its positive impact on Nigeria’s foreign exchange markets. IPMAN members should rely on Nigerian refineries, which aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.”
In addition to fuel supply, Shettima addressed the Federal Government’s push to adopt Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as an alternative vehicle fuel. He urged IPMAN members to prepare for the transition, highlighting the economic and environmental benefits. “CNG has the potential to rejuvenate our economy and improve quality of life. IPMAN is fully committed to supporting this initiative,” he said, calling for a partnership with the government to expand CNG availability across the country.
The IPMAN-Dangote Refinery deal and IPMAN’s support for CNG represent key steps toward energy diversification in Nigeria, aiming to strengthen the fuel supply chain, reduce import dependency, and promote sustainable alternatives.
