ISRAEL – The Israeli military announced on Monday that Ahed Tamimi, a prominent Palestinian activist, had been arrested during a West Bank raid on charges of “inciting violence”.
An army spokesperson reported that Tamimi was detained in the town of Nabi Salih near Ramallah and has been transferred to Israeli security forces for further questioning.
Israeli media sources indicate that Tamimi had recently posted a message on Instagram calling for the harm of Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank.
In an Instagram story, she allegedly wrote, “we are waiting for you in all the cities of the West Bank, from Hebron to Jenin, we will slaughter you, and you will say that what Hitler did to you was a joke.”
Ahed Tamimi, a 22-year-old activist who has become a global symbol of resistance against Israel’s presence in the West Bank, gained recognition after a video showed her biting a masked Israeli soldier to prevent him from arresting her younger brother.
In 2012, another video of her as an 11-year-old attempting to intervene in her mother and elder brother’s arrest went viral.
