ISREAL – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has suspended a cabinet minister who suggested dropping a nuclear bomb on Gaza was an option.
Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu was relieved of his duties and barred from cabinet meetings by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after making the outrageous claim during an interview on Radio Kol Berama, the Times of Israel reported.
Although, the inflammatory statement was immediately denounced by other cabinet member and Mr Eliyahu backtracked later by saying that “anyone reasonable would understand that the comment was metaphorical”.
Netanyahu said in a statement posted on X, “Amichai Eliyahu’s words are detached from reality.”
“Israel and the IDF are acting in accordance with the highest standards of international law in order to prevent harm to uninvolved people, and will continue to do that all the way to victory,” the prime minister wrote.
He also pointed out that Eliyahu is not part of the emergency Israeli war cabinet created after an attack by Hamas terrorists on October 7, which resulted in casualties and hostages.
