As Nigeria commemorates the 2024 International Women’s Day, President Bola Tinubu has hailed Nigerian women as the cornerstone of the nation’s advancement.
In a statement released on his X handle on Friday, Tinubu recognized the invaluable contribution of women to the country’s progress and praised their resilience, strength, and remarkable achievements across various fields, emphasizing their pivotal role in shaping the nation’s development and greatness.
He said, “On this year’s International Women’s Day, I celebrate all Nigerian women. They are the pivot of our nation.
“The indispensable role of women in building our dear Nation, Nigeria, must always be emphasised because they have been elemental to our nation’s development, growth, and greatness.
“In every discipline and field of human endeavour, the standout achievements of Nigerian women have become a testament to the resilience, strength, courage, and ingenuity of women worldwide, as well as a mark of their exceptional quality as emissaries of hope and possibilities.”
Aligning with the theme: ‘Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,’ president Tinubu noted the administration’s commitment to educating and empowering women.
He highlighted initiatives to ensure their inclusion in governance and active participation in all sectors of the economy.
He said, “The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day, ‘Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress’, aligns perfectly with my administration’s policy initiatives on educating and empowering women, as can be seen from their inclusion in governance in my administration – ensuring that they remain relevant and unimpeachable voices in the development process across all sectors of the economy.”
The president also emphasized the importance of investing in the education of the girl child and fostering inclusive programs to support women in areas of knowledge, science, technology, research, and innovation.
He reassured Nigerian women of his administration’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing their welfare, safeguarding their rights, and advocating for their interests.
