The Jigawa State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing a law that prohibits night grazing by herders across the state.

This move, according to the government, is directed at curbing road accidents, primarily caused by camels, which have resulted in a rising number of fatalities and injuries.

Governor Umar Namadi noted the state government’s concern for residents’ safety and well-being, stressing that the illegal activities of some herders, particularly those from neighboring countries remain worrisome.

To address the issue, the governor announced plans to register Fulani herders in the state for easy identification when necessary.

The Secretary-General of the West Africa Rearers Association of Nigeria, Abubakar Mustapha Andaza, expressed the association’s commitment to best practices in Jigawa.
