Former President Goodluck Jonathan has condemned the suspension of elected officials in Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu, stating that the move tarnishes Nigeria’s image.
Jonathan expressed his disappointment at the removal of elected officials, saying that such actions by the executive and legislative arms of government paint the country in a negative light.
Recall that the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his Deputy, Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the state House of Assembly for six months was declared by Tinubu on Tuesday.
The House of Representatives and the Senate have subsequently approved Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, despite opposition from many Nigerians.
Jonathan stressed that the image of the country and its attractiveness to investments depend on the actions of the executive, legislature, and judiciary.
He also criticized the situation where an individual can dictate to the judiciary, making it difficult for people to have faith in the judiciary.
