Osogbo, Osun State
Governor Ademola Adeleke has officially approved the election of Prince Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, a former Osun Deputy Governor, as the Owa-Obokun of Ijesaland. This decision followed his selection by Ijesa kingmakers on Friday, despite an earlier court injunction restraining the process.
Truth Live News gathered that, Prince Haastrup, of the Bilaro Olu-Odo Ruling House, succeeds Oba Gabriel Aromolaran, the 48th Owa-Obokun, who passed away in September 2024 after 42 years on the throne. The process of electing a new monarch began after the mandatory mourning period declared by the Owa-in-Council.
The election was conducted by six Iwora mefa and seven Agba Ijesa chiefs, including:
– High Chief Adefioye Adedeji, Lejoka of Ilesa
-High Chief Omoniyi Ojo, Lejofi of Ilesa
– High Chief Adebusoye Onigbogi, Arapate of Ilesa
-High Chief Oluwagbemiga Fadunsin Igbarool, Loro of Ilesa
-High Chief Lekan Folorunso, Odole of Ulesa
– High Chief Bola Orolugbagbe
– Mr. Abimbola Aluko (representing the Saloro of Ilesa, whose stool is vacant)
A statement from the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, confirmed the governor’s approval, noting that the selection process adhered to the Chiefs’ Law of Osun State (2002).
In congratulating the new monarch, Governor Adeleke called on the people of Ijesaland to unite under their new traditional ruler and prioritize peace and development.
To ensure security during the announcement, military and police operatives were deployed across Ilesa town, maintaining order at key locations.
