A dramatic scene unfolded at the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex on Wednesday as security personnel locked the entrance gate upon the arrival of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s convoy.
The governor, who had reportedly notified Speaker Martins Amaewhule of his visit through a letter and phone calls, was left stranded at the Assembly premises. However, security officials justified their actions by stating that there was no official communication regarding the visit.
Governor Fubara’s visit comes amid heightened political tensions following his directive to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) to prepare for fresh local government elections on August 9, 2025, in compliance with the Supreme Court’s February 28 judgment.
Meanwhile, Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo, had earlier written to the Assembly on March 7, requesting a meeting on March 10 to discuss the re-presentation of the 2025 budget and peace talks. However, the lawmakers insisted that the governor must follow proper channels for such engagements.
