The Federal Government has earmarked N5.7 billion for capital projects at the Federal University of Health Sciences, Funtua, Katsina State, as part of its commitment to improving medical education and healthcare services in Nigeria.

Truth Live News confirmed this development when the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund, Senator Muntari Dandutse, disclosed this to journalists on Saturday in Katsina.

“We are grateful to Allah that N5.7 billion was appropriated for capital projects in 2025 for the university. TETFund’s takeoff grant is N5 billion, while the normal intervention stands at N2.9 billion,” Dandutse stated.

The senator, who represents Katsina South, also confirmed that the Vice-Chancellor and Governing Council of the institution had been appointed, with efforts ongoing to recruit supporting staff. The university is expected to commence operations by September 2025.

Senator Dandutse emphasized that the university would play a crucial role in enhancing medical education and healthcare delivery in the North-West region. It is expected to admit students from Katsina and other neighbouring states, contributing to the development of the health sector in the region.

He further revealed that the Katsina State Government had committed N3 billion to ensure the university begins operations as scheduled.

In a broader move to improve access to education and infrastructure, Dandutse announced plans to establish JAMB CBT centres in the remaining eight local government areas under his constituency.

Additionally, he revealed that the Federal Government would roll out independent solar power projects in all public universities nationwide. The initiative aims to provide constant electricity supply to enhance teaching and learning in these institutions.

The establishment of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Funtua, marks a significant step towards addressing Nigeria’s healthcare education needs, equipping future medical professionals, and strengthening the nation’s healthcare system.
