The Federal Government has suspended the accreditation of degree certificates from Benin Republic and Togo following revelations of obtaining a degree in under two months. Augustina Obilor-Duru, Ministry of Education spokesperson, expressed concerns about Nigerians resorting to dubious means for unmerited job opportunities.

Truth Live News can confirm that the suspension, effective from January 2, 2024, awaits the outcome of a comprehensive investigation involving collaboration with relevant authorities.

The probe includes cooperation with Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Education ministries in Benin and Togo, the Department of State Security Services (DSSS), and the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC). Seeking public assistance, the Ministry urged for information to aid the investigative committee in preventing future incidents.

Emphasizing ongoing efforts against illegal institutions globally and locally, the Ministry vows to strengthen strategies, close loopholes, and take decisive action against complicit officials. This initiative responds to rising concerns about diploma mills granting degrees without merit, contributing to a pool of unqualified job seekers.

The Federal Government’s decisive action aims to preserve the integrity of educational qualifications, safeguarding against fraudulent practices. As complaints about illegitimate institutions persist, the Ministry is committed to reviewing procedures and addressing shortcomings. By taking this bold step, the government seeks to ensure that the pursuit of knowledge remains legitimate and honorable, safeguarding the nation’s educational standards and economic stability.
