Just In: Former FCT Minister Is Dead

Chief Mobolaji Ajose-Adeogun, the inaugural Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, has passed away at the age of 96.

Chief Ajose-Adeogun, a distinguished member of the Ajose-Adeogun family, departed on Saturday, July 1, 2023. His passing was confirmed by Oluremi Ajose-Adeogun, a family member.

During his lifetime, Chief Ajose-Adeogun made significant contributions to the real estate sector in Nigeria, leaving an indelible mark. As the visionary behind the original Master plan of the FCT, he played a crucial role in its development as the first minister.

Prior to his tenure as Minister, Chief Ajose-Adeogun had a successful career in the oil and gas industry, particularly with the Shell Petroleum Development Company. He later served as the Federal Commissioner for Cooperatives and Supply in August 1975, followed by the position of Commissioner for Special Duties at the Federal Capital Development Authority after his retirement.

In 1976, when the Federal Capital Territory was established, Chief Ajose-Adeogun assumed the role of its first Minister.

He is survived by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
