Group Captain Salaudeen Latinwo (retd), a former military administrator of the state of Kwara, has passed away.
After a protracted illness, Latinwo apparently passed away in the early hours of Saturday in the United Kingdom. He was 80 years old.
During the rule of Major General Buhari/Idiagbon, Latino was the military administrator of Kwara state between January 1984 and August 1985.
In 1943, a member of the renowned and incredibly wealthy Aliu Onaolapo Olatinwo family of Offa was born in the local government of Offa in the state of Kwara. He was one of his father Aliu Olatinwo’s 10 wives’ 43 offspring.
The first Chief of Air Staff of the Nigerian Air Force, Colonel Gerhard Kahtz, who was also serving as the head of the German Air Force Assistance Group (GAFAG), recruited Latino as one of the first classes of officer cadets into the Nigerian Air Force in 1963. The Air Force Act of 1964, which went into effect on April 18, 1964, officially constituted the Nigerian Air Force.
In the meantime, Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq expressed sympathy to the state’s residents, particularly the Offa community, over the passing of retired Group Captain Salaudeen Adebola Latinwo, a former military administrator of the state.
Governor AbdulRazaq called Latinwo’s passing as a tragic event and a significant gap in the generation of great statesmen, whose reservoir of knowledge and experience is priceless, in a statement on Saturday.

According to a statement from Government House, the governor “sends his heartfelt condolences to the family of the late military administrator, the Offa community, and the military establishment on this development” on behalf of the AbdulRazaqs, the government, and the people of Kwara State.
The governor asks Allah to support the previous leader’s family and the community he left behind as well as to provide him eternal rest in Jannah.
Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, the Emir of Ilorin and chairman of the Kwara State Council of Chiefs, described Group Captain Salaudeen Olatinwo (rtd), a former military governor of the state, as a significant loss to the state and the country as a whole.
The late 9th Emir of Ilorin, Shehu Zulqarnaini Muhammadu Gambari, who claimed the deceased’s tenure coincided with his own installation as the Ciroma of Ilorin in 1984, Alhaji Sulu-Gambari, further confirmed that the late Salaudeen was a valiant Air Force officer who diligently oversaw the state of harmony.
The Emir further described late Olatinwo as a supporter of the War Against Indiscipline and Corruption, which was the hallmark of the Buhari/Idiagbon-led military regime in the country, in a condolence statement released by his spokesman, Mallam Abdulazeez Arowona, on Saturday.
Alhaji Sulu-Gambari expressed his condolences to the ex-military warlord’s family and expressed sympathy to the entire populace of the ancient city of Offa, the Olofa of Offa, Oba Muhammad Mufutau Gbadamosi Esuwoye II, on behalf of all the members of the Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, over the passing of the former military administrator of the state.
“This unfortunate incident has befallen us in Kwara State,” the speaker said. Indeed, the entire state, country, and mankind as a whole have suffered a significant loss, said Alhaji Sulu-Gambari.
He asked Allah in his prayer to forgive him completely, recognize his good actions, and accept him into Al-janatul firdaos.
