The Coalition of Democratic Leaders (CDL) has issued a scathing rebuke of Chief Dan Osi Orbih, accusing the former National Vice Chairman (South-South) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of unconstitutional and unauthorized interference in the internal affairs of the party in Edo and Bayelsa States.
In a statement released on Tuesday evening by its National Team Lead, Dr. Paschal Eje, the CDL described Chief Orbih’s recent attempt to constitute a caretaker committee in the two states as “illegal, null, and void,” warning that such actions undermine the integrity of the PDP’s constitutional order and pose a dangerous threat to party unity and discipline.
“Chief Orbih’s meddling is not only unlawful but represents a brazen usurpation of powers he no longer holds. This must be condemned by all lovers of democracy and loyal PDP members,” said Dr. Paschal Eje, National Team Lead of the CDL.
According to the CDL, the PDP Constitution clearly vests the authority to constitute or dissolve state leadership structures in the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), not in any former official. The coalition warned that allowing such unconstitutional behavior to stand would set a “dangerous precedent” and weaken internal governance.
“It is unacceptable for a former party officer, without any current legal mandate, to impose illegitimate leadership structures in states where the NWC has acted with full authority,” the statement emphasized.
The CDL is now urging the NWC and the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the PDP to:
Reject Chief Orbih’s unconstitutional actions
Reaffirm the legitimate leadership in Edo and Bayelsa
Commence disciplinary proceedings against Chief Orbih to uphold the rule of law within the party.
“Failure to act decisively could embolden others to engage in similar unauthorized actions,” the CDL warned.
While condemning the alleged actions of Chief Orbih, the CDL praised PDP members in Edo and Bayelsa for their resilience and commitment to party ideals. It urged leaders in both states to prioritize grassroots engagement, internal cohesion, and inclusive leadership.
“The PDP must not allow personal ambition or factionalism to derail our collective goals. This is a time for focus, discipline, and unity,” said Dr. Eje.
Reaffirming its loyalty to the PDP, the CDL pledged to continue defending the party’s constitution, promoting legitimate leadership, and safeguarding institutional values.
“No individual, past or present, is above the laws that govern our great party. We call on the national leadership to act swiftly in defense of the PDP’s integrity.”
