Just In: Nine Persons Rescued As Flood Sinks Building In Lagos

The National Emergency Management Agency on Monday rescued at least nine ladies from a sinking building in Lagos.

The Agency made this known in the early hours of today that it received a distress call of a sinking storey building with nine persons trapped.

The sinking building is located at 47, Akinwunmi Street, Akinwunmi North Estate, Mende, Maryland, Ikeja, Lagos State, NEMA disclosed.

According to the agency, a torrential rainfall overnight Sunday to Monday flooded lots of communities in Lagos.

NEMA also added that after its advance team arrival and seeing the level of work to be done, its called for more reinforcement of personnel.

One of the trapped victims, who simply identified herself as Blessing, said that they were up to nine in the building, with most of them women.

she added, the landlord of the building used a ladder to escape and that NEMA questioned him for failure to contact emergency responders.

The Agencies involved in the rescue operation were NEMA, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Lagos State Fire Service and Police Disaster Management Unit.

Meanwhile, NEMA said all the nine trapped ladies have been successful rescued.
