The People’s Democratic Party in Cross River State has officially announced Lady Emana-Duke Ambrose Amawhe as the party’s deputy governorship candidate to pair with Senator (Prof) Sandy Ojang Onor in the 2023 gubernatorial election in the state.

The decision was reached by the Leadership of the party after several considerations and extensive consultations were made to ensure that the party does not only put up candidates to win election but also those that will impact positively on the State.

The unveiling was done at the Party Secretariat by Mary Slessor in Calabar, Cross River State amidst a large crowd of party faithfuls, candidates and sitting Members of National and State Houses of Assembly.

Her candidature was announced at a ceremony in Calabar by Onor, and the state party Chairman, Venatius Ikem on Monday.

“You can’t properly mobilise without the strength of women. Since Cecilia Ekpenyong had a short stint as a woman deputy governor in Cross River State (30 years ago), we have not carried our women along again.

“So we came to the conclusion that we needed to fill the deputy governorship seat with a woman. Women cannot just be cheerleaders among us. Women must also be integrated and given pride of place,” Onor said.

Emana-Duke Ambrose Amawhe is a youthful female with an impressive character, academic and career achievements and great exposure. She is from Akpabuyo Local Government, Cross River Southern Senatorial District, a wife and a mother. The Party in her democratic idealogy of inclusiveness and gender sensitivity is confident that she will bring in her expertise as a Broadcaster and Crisis Management strategist to ensure good governance in all ramifications
