The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has sounded a stern warning over what it describes as a dangerous ploy by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to instigate chaos in the state.

In a press statement issued on Monday by Chris Osa Nehikhare, Publicity Secretary of the Edo PDP Caretaker Committee, the party alleged that the APC plans to deploy armed thugs disguised in PDP-branded attire to execute sporadic shootings aimed at creating unrest.

“It has come to our attention that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State is planning to deploy another set of armed thugs, disguised in PDP-branded attire, to carry out sporadic shootings in the state with the intent to cause chaos and crisis,” Nehikhare stated.

The PDP distanced itself from any such violent acts, condemning them as part of what they called “a series of clandestine efforts by the APC to tarnish the image of our party and stir unrest in the state.”

The party called on security agencies to act swiftly to thwart the alleged plan, urging them to apprehend and prosecute those involved.

“We condemn in the strongest terms the violent behavior of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and draw the attention of the security agencies to this planned attack on our nascent democracy. The culprits must be apprehended and brought to justice,” the statement added.

The PDP further warned the APC to refrain from what it termed as repeated assaults on democracy in Edo State, emphasizing the need for adherence to the rule of law.

The statement concluded with an appeal to stakeholders, including civil society organizations, the international community, and concerned citizens, to unite in resisting divisive tactics aimed at undermining peace and democracy in Edo State.
