The Kaduna State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Commander Idris Yahaya, on Wednesday, have placed its personnel in Disaster Management Unit and residents on red alert due to impending flood.

Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) had predicted possible floods, especially for residents of areas considered as most vulnerable.

After this early warning, Yahaya directed the officers in disaster management to be alert and sensitize residents of the affected areas on how to mitigate or respond to the natural disaster.

According to him he said that, he had placed the officers on alert because of the frequency and high degree of rains in August, which will last till the end of September and even part of October.

He said the flood disaster would be avoided as they work with relevant stakeholders like National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) at the federal and state levels.

He furthered that the Disaster Management Unit, Divisional Officers in charge of Kaduna-North, Kaduna-South, Chikun, and Jema’a should ensure swift action towards mitigation or ameliorating the situation, just as he called on residents of Kabala costain, Kabala Doki and Kigo Road in Kaduna-North, Bashama Road in Tudun-Wada in Kaduna-South including communities around the river bank such as; Nasarawa and Keke B, Tudu Mashigi, Kurmi and Doka Mai Jema’a in Chikun Local Government Area to adhere to the warning by taking precautionary measure and relocate from those highly vulnerable locations.
