Barely 48 hours after serial killing spree by a medical doctor was reported from Kaiama, a local government council in Kwara, another tale of horror where a young man of undetermined age, killed his own brother in an attempt to test a bullet warding off charm, recently acquired from a sharman.

Police reports that the matter came to their notice late Sunday night from a Kaiama police station relating to the killing.

“One Yusuf Abubakar ‘M’ aged 12 yrs, was killed by his elder brother named Abubakar Abubakar, both sons of one Abubakar Abubakar, a hunter in Dutse Gogo town via Kaiama, during the process of testing the efficacy of a newly procured gunshot protective charm,” explained Ajayi Okasanmi, spokesman of the Kwara Police Command.

Many African societies still believe in the efficacy of charms to ward off ballistics or gunshot projectiles.

Narrating the sad but bizarre incident, the police said that it happened after the children thought they had fortified themselves with the protective charm, then the older son brought his father’s dane gun and shot his younger sibling.

Of course the charm failed, leading to  the death of 12year old Yusuf Abubakar.

The elder brother however escaped into the bushes immediately the act was committed.

“Also, parents and guidances are advised to monitor the activities of their children and avoid doing certain unsavory activities while their children and wards watch, to prevent incidents of this nature,” Okasanmi said.
