The Taraba State Government has unveiled an ambitious plan to combat hunger and bolster food security, with Governor Agbu Kefas announcing the procurement of 10,000 metric tons of assorted grains for distribution.
Truth Live News gathered that during his New Year address, the governor revealed that 3,500 metric tons have already been secured, with the remaining 6,500 metric tons expected by the end of the first quarter of the year.
“In response to the threat of hunger, we have procured 3,500 metric tons of grains and reserved them for our citizens,” Governor Kefas said. “Our target is to secure up to 10,000 metric tons of assorted grains.”
Governor Kefas also highlighted the importance of peace as the cornerstone of development. His administration has reinforced security in all 168 wards of the state, collaborating with security agencies, traditional institutions, and neighboring states to tackle emerging challenges. Initiatives such as the Joint Intelligence Network and the expanded Tara Marshall have further enhanced safety across the state.
Emphasizing investment in education, the governor announced the continuation of free and compulsory education for primary and secondary levels, alongside plans to modernize schools, recruit qualified teachers, and ensure access to quality education for all.
“Modern schools will be constructed in all local government areas using innovative building technologies,” he assured. Additionally, skills acquisition programs and entrepreneurship support for youths are set to play a pivotal role in the state’s development strategy.
Under the state’s agricultural revolution, significant progress has been made through the remodeling of agricultural facilities, provision of modern farm inputs, and youth training in advanced farming techniques. On higher education, reforms are underway to improve infrastructure and align academic programs with global standards, with a stern warning against acts of sabotage.
Governor Kefas reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to transparency and accountability, ensuring that every naira spent is justified. He called on Taraba’s diverse communities to unite for collective progress, stating, “The strength of our diversity lies in our ability to work together toward shared goals.”
The governor’s focus on food security, education, agriculture, and security has earned widespread praise. As Taraba begins 2025, these policies are expected to position the state as a model of resilience and sustainable development for Nigeria and beyond.
