The Labour Party (LP) has refuted rumors suggesting its involvement in discussions for a potential merger with another political party, urging Nigerians to disregard such circulating claims.

Mr. Obiora Ifoh, the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, made this declaration in a statement released on Thursday in Abuja.

Ifoh emphasized that the reports were merely sensationalized news items manipulated by the media to discredit the party’s reputation.

He said, “A news organisation called for a reaction as regards to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s proposal for opposition political parties to work together to fight against the one-party system in Nigeria.

“In my reaction, I said that it was only a proposal and every Nigerian should be interested in making democracy work and that what we have presently is an autocracy.

“There was nowhere in the response that the purported merger between LP and PDP was mentioned.”

He added that the party has its own official platform to disseminate its information.
