Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, representing Anambra South, made a strong and controversial assertion regarding the source of wealth among Igbo people, particularly in Lagos. He claimed that a significant proportion, estimated at around 70 to 80 percent, of Igbo wealth could be traced back to the legacy of former Lagos State Governor, President Bola Tinubu, who governed the state from 1999 to 2007.

Senator Ubah shared his view during his formal induction into the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja, emphasizing that President Tinubu possessed the capabilities required to lead the nation. He acknowledged the historical reluctance of Igbo people to engage with national politics due to emotional factors.

The senator expressed his reasons for switching his political allegiance from the Young Progressives Party (YPP) to the APC. He cited irreconcilable differences within the YPP and the growing need to align with a party that resonated with his values and the desires of his constituents.

Ubah particularly praised the APC’s dedication to good governance, economic development, and social progress as driving factors for his defection. He also voiced his support for President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” initiative.

In summary, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah’s statement at his APC induction event highlighted the substantial role President Tinubu’s legacy in Lagos played in the accumulation of wealth by Igbo individuals. He explained his decision to join the APC, emphasizing his alignment with the party’s principles and its potential to address the challenges facing his constituents and constituency.
