The Libyan government has denied a request from the Nigerian government to allow its diplomatic mission to visit the Super Eagles, who are stranded at the Abraq International Airport in Bayda City. This development was revealed on Monday in a statement by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar.
Tuggar noted that the Nigerian Mission in Tripoli, led by Ambassador Stephen Anthony Awuru, has been in continuous communication with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Libyan authorities since the team’s ordeal began. “Despite efforts, Libyan authorities have not yet authorized the Nigerian Mission’s trip to Bayda City, where the airport is located,” the minister said.
However, Tuggar confirmed that the Head of the Nigerian Community in Benghazi, Mr. Morris Eromosele, managed to reach the stranded team early Monday morning, bringing essential supplies and providing internet access. Tuggar assured the public that the situation is being closely monitored and that further action will depend on the report from the Nigerian community representative on the ground.
