Major Shake-Up Hits Calabar Council, Full List Of New Appointees

CROSS RIVER, CALABAR – The Executive Chairman of Calabar Municipal Council, Apostle (Rt. Hon) James Anam, has approved a fresh wave of political appointments and a portfolio reshuffling.

Twenty-three individuals were appointed as Supervisors, Special Assistants, Ward Relations Officers (WROs), and Protocol staff, according to a press release issued Tuesday by Chief Press Secretary Oqua E. Etim.

Mr. Charles Otudor was named Supervisor for Youth’s Development. Bassey Emmanuel Archibong, Eyo Ekong, and John Emmanuel Ekwere were appointed as Special Assistants on Community Development, Agriculture, and Community Relations, respectively.

Other appointments include Eld Victor Antigha for Support Groups, Beto-Bassey Oboh for City Branding, and Cyril Bassey Archibong for Economic Development.

“The appointments take immediate effect and reflect the administration’s drive toward grassroots service delivery,” Etim said in the release.

Also appointed were Edim Edim Itakpo (Project Monitoring), Utibe Ekong Bassey (Livestock Development), and Janet Inok (Social Welfare). Youth Mobilization and Gender-Based Violence portfolios went to Odio Usang and Linda Ita Okon.

WROs were assigned across several wards. Hon. Arit Effiom will serve Ward Two, Oma Edim Inok for Ward Three, and Hon. Solomom Ika for Ward Nine.

Emmanuel Oto Iso and Desmond Walter Bassey were named Chief of Staff and Chief Press Secretary, respectively. Both will support the legislative arm of the Council.

Three Protocol Officers—Philip Okon Ayiba, Etim Edet John, and Dominion Essien—were also appointed to the Council’s Protocol Unit.

The Council also confirmed a reshuffling of roles involving 10 former aides.

Eld. Ekong Bassey Ekong was reassigned from Special Adviser on Climate Change to Supervisor for Water Resources and Hygiene. Eld. Francis Effiom will now oversee Humanitarian and Social Welfare.

Other changes include Chief Antigha Ambo moving to Information and Orientation, and Engr. Chris Agbor to Transportation.

Speaking on the reshuffle, Apostle James Anam said the changes were based on “performance, integrity, and alignment with community needs.”

According to the release, former transport aide Cyril Bassey becomes WRO for Ward One. John Etim Williams, John Uma, and Okon Kingsley Ekpe were also reassigned as WROs.

Former aide on Livestock Development, Effiom Etim Offiong, now serves Ward Ten. Ms. Rachael Bassey becomes Special Assistant on Climate Change and Green Economy.

“This administration is committed to merit, inclusivity, and development-focused governance,” Etim stated.

No financial entitlements were disclosed in the release. The appointments are presumed to follow due process, although independent verification was not provided.
