A 37-year-old man, Kosisochukwu Okafor, has been arrested for the alleged murder of his elder brother, Emmanuel Okafor, aged 45 in Adegbe Village, Abagana, within the Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The tragic event unfolded on Friday, following a domestic dispute over foodstuff usage in their home which escalated into violence.
According to an eyewitness, the altercation became deadly when “the junior brother used a stick to pierce his chest and he fell.” Despite immediate efforts to save him, Emmanuel was pronounced dead at the hospital by the attending doctor.
Truth Live News learnt that SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, confirmed the arrest on Saturday.
He detailed how “Police operatives attached to the Abagana Police Divisional Headquarters and vigilante operatives in Abagana on February 7, 2025 by 7pm arrested one Anthony Kosisochukwu Okafor … over the death of his elder brother, Mr Emmanuel Okafor.”
Ikenga further reported that Kosisochukwu confessed to the crime, explaining that the fight was sparked by a heated argument about household resources. “Kosisochukwu was said to have used a stick to pierce the deceased chest,” Ikenga added, emphasizing the tragic outcome of unresolved familial disputes.
Highlighting the broader implications of the incident, Ikenga stated, “This incident is quite disturbing and highlights the importance of addressing domestic violence and conflicts amongst family members. It also shows the need to manage conflicts and emotions healthily and constructively to avoid irreparable consequences.”
The case has since been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka, where further investigation is underway. Kosisochukwu is expected to be charged in court upon the conclusion of these investigations.
