Nigerian comedian and politician Obinna Simon, popularly known as MC Tagwaye, has officially defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

This move comes after “months of intense consultations and introspection,” during which Tagwaye lost faith in the APC’s founding principles.

Tagwaye criticized the APC for its lack of reward system for loyal members, gerontocratic leadership structure, and policies that exacerbate economic hardship.

He also accused the party of compromising internal democracy, allowing a few power brokers to dictate its direction while disregarding the majority’s voices and aspirations.

“In contract, the ADP stands for youth inclusion, transparency, and accountability,” he said, adding that the party’s vision for a better Nigeria aligns with his own.

He expressed his alignment with the party’s vision for a better Nigeria and encouraged like-minded individuals to join him in working towards “a brighter future for Nigeria”.
