A civil rights group, Edo Civil Society Organizations (EDOCSO) has raised the alarm over the midnight invasion of its former Coordinator General, Comrade Omobude Agho’s house by the Department of State Security (DSS) in Benin.

In a post sent to the organization’s WhatsApp platform by the former Public Relations Officer of the civil rights group, Comrade Osazee Edigin, said the DSS stormed Agho at dead night in a commando-like style to whisk him away without formal notification.

According to Edigin “EDO STATE DSS STORMS LEFTIST OMOBUDE AGHO’S HOUSE MIDNIGHT IN COMMANDO STYLE WITH THREE HILUX VANS AND WHISKED HIM AWAY.

“What appears like an action film was what the family of Leftist Omobude Agho, a human rights activist recounts when men from the Department of State Security (DSS) stormed the activist’s residence at 2am.

“The scene can be likened to making an arrest of the most dreaded bandit leader in Zamfara state.

“As at the moment, the civil society movement is still trying to unravel what level of criminal act that he might have committed, the DSS didn’t give reason for such a huge mobilization of men and resources for the arrest of a human rights activist who could have just been invited.

“Time shall tell if the DSS has become a tool to be used or otherwise”.
