The Nigerian military says its has foiled attempt by insurgents to attack Monguno in Borno State.
A statement issued to newsmen on Friday by the spokesperson of sector III of Operation Hadin Kai Capt. Babatunde Zubairu says the operation was in collaboration with the Multi National Joint Task Force (MNJTF).
Zubairu said some weapons and logistics were recovered and they include one AK 47 rifle with two-loaded magazines captured along with several items which include mobile phones and five newly acquired motorcycles.
According to the statement, two of the terrorists were neutralised while some fled with severe gunshot wounds.
He said five people were picked up by the army around the area during the operation adding that they have been united with thier families after investigation revealed that they had no connection with the terrorists.
The Sector Commander, Maj. Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar has therefore commended the troops for their gallantry and professionalism in the fight against the insurgents.
He called for more collaboration and support from host communities for maximum results.
