In the pursuit of a spot in the 2024 Women’s Olympic Football Tournament in France, Nigeria’s Super Falcons have received an encouraging charge from the Federal Government to overcome Ethiopia. The Honourable Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, urged the team to elevate their efforts and secure a convincing victory to advance to the next round of qualifiers.

The Minister’s message came after the Falconets managed a draw in the first leg of their match against Ethiopia, which was played in East Africa. Senator John Owan Enoh implored the Super Falcons to step up their game and ensure a triumphant performance in their upcoming match on October 31, 2023, at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

With unwavering optimism, the Minister anticipates a commendable and victorious display by the Falconets, particularly due to the advantage of playing on home soil. He urged the team to take charge, dominate, and conquer Ethiopia’s ‘Feisty Lucy.’

He said “ Make full use of the home advantage, the cheers, the applause, the support, and give us the much-needed win,” Senator Owan Enoh stressed.

Furthermore, Senator Owan Enoh emphasized the significance of this match, considering it would be the Super Falcons’ first game in the country since the inception of the present administration led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He expressed his personal anticipation of celebrating the team’s victory as a special gift.

“Even though we are in the race for qualification, I will be excited if the Super Falcons can beat Feisty ‘Lucy’ in today’s match for the generality of Nigerians, as we celebrate this new phase of our sports,” he emphasized.

The Minister called on all sports enthusiasts in Nigeria not only to offer their prayers for the team’s success but also to show their support by attending the match in large numbers. He reiterated that Nigeria stands firmly behind the Super Falcons.

The Super Falcons have won the African Women’s Championship an unmatched eleven times but have failed to replicate that success in the Olympics, having failed to qualify in three consecutive attempts
